Announced Ambassadors for 2019's Student Body

The Student Ambassadors group, a volunteer team of talented students, played a significant role in shaping the 2019-20 academic year at our institution. This dynamic group, which has been in existence since 2010, is preparing for the 2020 Accreditation renewal.

The Student Ambassadors program is made up of students from diverse disciplines, each bringing unique perspectives to the table. Kerstin Briar, with an Associate Degree in Graphic Design, and Rachel Herring, also a Graphic Design associate, are among the members. Juan Parra, who holds an Associate Degree in Illustration, and Ashley Rich, with a Marketing Design Advanced Certificate, also contribute to the team. Rounding out the group is Julianne Anderson, another Graphic Design associate, and Katie Nelson, who holds a Graphic Design Advanced Certificate.

The role of the Student Ambassadors is multifaceted. They provide insights and suggestions to help guide the institution, offering feedback on whether it is on the right track. Their primary focus, however, has been on new student marketing, community building, and promoting discussions and participation through planning and hosting events, developing peer-to-peer marketing tactics, and representing the institution on social media and campus activities.

During the 2019-20 academic year, these ambassadors made a substantial impact. Barbara Archer, who chaired the UMGC Student Advisory Council, was instrumental in planning meetings, coordinating with staff, advocating for the student body, and participating in mental health advocacy. David Imirian, from Public Health, was respected for promoting public health awareness and academic excellence while supporting peers.

The diversity of the ambassadors' academic backgrounds helped them address varied student interests and foster inclusive engagement, effectively promoting the institution's mission and student community participation. For example, Samuel Cleofas, a mathematics student who also served as a teaching assistant, aims to become a math teacher. Raul Gonzalez, with a focus on multilingual multicultural education, is known for his leadership and fresh ideas on schooling experiences for diverse learners. Micah Byers, a composer and educator in the field of music, and Raul Gonzalez, with a focus on public health, also contributed significantly to the group.

In summary, the 2019-20 Student Ambassadors provided invaluable service to the future development of our institution. Their academic diversity, combined with their dedication and passion, helped foster a vibrant and inclusive student community, aligning perfectly with the institution's mission. As they prepare for the 2020 Accreditation renewal, the Student Ambassadors continue to be a vital part of our institution's growth and success.
