Youth Parliament 2024 in North Rhine-Westphalia: Empowering Young Voices

The Youth Parliament 2024 in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) is an exciting opportunity for young people aged 16 to 20 to engage in political discussions and decision-making processes. This initiative, which takes place from 7th to 9th November 2024 in Düsseldorf, aims to foster youth involvement in democracy and encourage active citizenship.

Organised by SPD MPs Sonja Bongers, Frederick Cordes, and Stefan Zimkeit, the Youth Parliament 2024 invites three young individuals to sit in parliament and participate in simulated parliamentary procedures. During the event, participants will discuss current topics and learn about the parliamentary workday.

Young people interested in participating should submit an application, which typically involves providing personal information and a brief statement explaining their motivation for joining the event. Application details, such as deadlines and criteria, are usually announced on official NRW government or related youth participation portals.

In recent years, topics such as 'promoting political education' and making training professions more attractive have been debated in the Youth Parliament. The decisions made by the 'Youth Parliamentarians' will be presented to the MPs of the 'real' Landtag.

The Youth Parliament 2024 will feature 195 young people acting as MPs and shaping committees, faction meetings, and plenary sessions. All costs, including accommodation, will be covered by the Landtag.

According to Sonja Bongers, this is an opportunity for young people to experience democracy firsthand, while Frederick Cordes believes that the democracy of NRW thrives on young people committed to their positions and eager to contribute to the future.

For the most accurate and detailed information, it is recommended to consult official NRW government websites, youth ministry pages, or the Youth Parliament’s dedicated website if available. If you need assistance in locating these resources, feel free to ask!
