Arnsberg & Meschede Launch Intermunicipal Youth Art School

Arnsberg and Meschede are set to expand their cultural landscape with the establishment of an intermunicipal youth art school. The project, funded for three years, aims to engage children and youth aged 10 to 14 in creative activities. The first offers, based on a pedagogical concept, will be developed in 2025 and include various art forms.

The youth art school will operate decentralized, networking local artists instead of a fixed location. 'Kunstmobil' (KUMO) will be introduced this year, with eight vehicles (four in each city) bringing art to city centers and districts. Kirsten Minkel (Arnsberg) and Anne Wiegel (Meschede) will coordinate the project locally, aiming to introduce a joint cultural program.

The 'Jugendkunstschule kunsthaus alte muhle e.V.' from Schmallenberg will support the founding phase under Beate Herrmann's direction. Activities in networking will start this year, with Beate visiting artists and facilities in Arnsberg, Meschede, Sundern, and surrounding areas. Interested artists from these regions can participate in the program.

Arnsberg and Meschede will cover approximately one third of the costs as their own contribution. The project is additionally supported by Förderkreis Kunst und Kultur Kloster Wedinghausen e.V. Interested children and youth can register for the cultural participant offerings in 2025, with the exact last registration deadline to be specified later.
