Berlin Pub Bajszel Faces Escalating Extremist Threats
The Bajszel, a pub in Berlin-Neukölln renowned for hosting open discussions, is grappling with escalating threats from extremists. Despite the danger, the Bajszel remains resolute, maintaining a defiant stance against the attacks.
The latest threat arrives in the form of a flyer, circulating in the area, which demands 'Make Zionists tremble'. It targets three Bajszel operators by name and face, threatening 'They have names, faces, addresses, and have been frequently spotted in public in Neukölln. We want these three to be silenced forever and serve as a caution to all Zionists in Berlin and Neukölln.' Andrea Reinhardt, one of the targeted operators, implores witnesses to report to the police who may have seen the distributors.
This is not an isolated incident. Graffiti calling for violence, such as 'kill a Zionist', has been appearing on Berlin's cityscape for months. Jewish institutions and left-wing locations critical of anti-Semitism have also been attacked and threatened across Germany. The Bajszel, which welcomes discussions on various topics including anti-Semitism and the Ukraine war, has been under daily police protection due to repeated attacks, including stones thrown at windows.
The Bajszel continues to stand firm against these threats, with many guests showing solidarity with the staff. The flyers, marked with downward-pointing red triangles associated with Israel-hostile and anti-Semitic threats, serve as a stark reminder of the escalating tensions. Authorities are urged to investigate and apprehend those responsible.
