Berlin School Rocks by Homophobic Harassment Again

Berlin is grappling with a fresh case of homophobic harassment at a school, reminiscent of past incidents. The latest incident involves a gay teacher at the Carl-Bolle-Grundschule in Berlin-Moabit, who has reported bullying and harassment by students. The case has sparked concerns about the prevalence of homophobia in Berlin's schools and the lack of reliable data on the issue.

The Rütli School in Neukölln, now known as Campus Rütli, previously gained national attention in 2006 due to its struggles, including incidents of harassment and violence. The current case at Carl-Bolle-Grundschule is under investigation, with two separate probes ongoing - one against a named suspect and another against an unknown student.

Green party state chairwoman Stahr has demanded action from the education administration, citing common homophobic violence in schools. She criticizes the vacant positions of anti-bullying and anti-discrimination commissioners and the lack of data on school bullying. The public prosecutor's office is also involved, investigating insults and harassment against the husband of the gay teacher.

The first procedure against a student has been completed, but details remain unclear. Meanwhile, the Senate faces criticism for cutting funds for queer education projects and civic education, which Stahr labels a political scandal.

The recent case at Carl-Bolle-Grundschule highlights the persistent issue of homophobia in Berlin's schools. With investigations ongoing and calls for action from political figures, the education administration is under pressure to address this concern and ensure the safety and well-being of all students and teachers.
