Layin' Down the Law: A Radical Theatre Showdown in Astana

The climax of the intriguing stage showdown, "Law 'n' Kids: No Mistakes Allowed", unfurled in Astana, organized across the city's schools, as reported on the official website of the city's ruling body.

This year's grand finale, a collaboration between the city's law enforcers and the ruling body within the narrative "Law and Order", saw the merger of victors from district rounds - the top theatre groups from 6 schools hailing from 6 districts, who strutted their stuff on stage with productions focusing on legal matters that matter.

The objective of this beefed-up theatrical throwdown is to instill a solid legal culture in the student body, spark interest in human rights, cultivate an informed legal perspective, and nip juvenile offenses in the bud by creatively dissecting diverse life situations through artistic expression.

What sets this competition apart is its empowerment of the youth to paint their perspective of justice, righteousness, and civic responsibility, making art their platform to voice their thoughts.

The jury of this event, comprising Deputy Mayor of the city Yesset Baiken, the National Children's Rights Commissioner Dinaara Zakiyeva, the Deputy Chair of the Commission on Women and Family-Demographic Policy in Astana Nazgul Makzhan, Deputy Prosecutor of the city Bulat Mizanbaev, Director of the city's Education Department Kasymkhan Sengazyev, a popular TV presenter Aigul Mukan, representatives from the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan, district prosecutors, and district mayors, scrutinized the young artists' creations.

"Today, we've gathered the district winners here. It's vital for every child's rights to be safeguarded and upheld. Alongside their rights, they should apprehend the repercussions of law-breaking. That's why we're holding such a large-scale preventive event. May luck favor all participants!" Kasymkhan Sengazyev, the city's Education Department honcho, declared.

Inspired students from 6 schools used theatre to address the pressing issues plaguing contemporary society, tackling topics such as corruption, cyberbullying, drug trafficking, theft, and misinformation dissemination.

This event, launched last year, has grown into a yearly tradition and tonight, we bear witness to the culmination of the previously held qualifying rounds. Every baby, from birth, yearns to grasp their environment and everything encompassing it. In our quest for knowledge and understanding, sometimes we make blunders and commit wrongdoings. Events like this hold great significance in terms of prevention. Each student on stage today represents a law-abiding citizen of our nation and a future person who cherishes the rule of law,' the deputy mayor of the capital, Eset Baken, added.

The winner of the "Best Performer" memorial prize was Nurakhmatalakh Zhantukan, a 6th grader from School-Gymnasium No.87. Meirym Suleimen, a 6th grader from School No.108, nabbed the "Best Actress Award". School-Lyceum No.28 received the designation "Special Insight on the Theme", School-Lyceum No.58 received the designation "Best Script", School-Gymnasium No.17 received the designation "Best Video", and student Bek Saparkhan from School No.93 received the designation "Best Supporting Role".

Schools No.97 and No.75 also received awards for their collaborative efforts in making social videos adhering to the "Law and Order Principle". The ranking, awarding the accolades, went as follows: 6th place to School No.28, 5th place to No.93, 4th place to No.58, 3rd place to No.87, 2nd place to No.108, and 1st place to No.17.

Apart from certificates, the winners were gifted monetary and non-monetary prizes ranging from 50,000 to 300,000 tenge.
