Celebratory Gathering Marking the First Graduation Ceremony at Our Institution

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar celebrated a significant milestone as it held its first Convocation ceremony for the batch of 2015-2019 on the 25th of January, 2020, at the India International Centre (IIC). This momentous occasion was graced by the presence of esteemed guests, including Professor Steven Spier, Vice-Chancellor of Kingston University, London, and Professor Mandy Ure, Interim Dean, Kingston School of Art, Kingston University, UK.

The day began with Dr. Jitin Chadha, the Director of our institution, expressing his joy at celebrating the graduation event with the students. He was joined by Professor Usha Patel, Dean Academics at our institution, who encouraged the students to dream big and face challenges with conviction.

Students from Fashion Design, Interior Architecture and Design, and Communication Design received B.A. (Hons) Degrees from Kingston University. The graduation ceremony ended on a note of vigour and positivity with the graduating batch intermingling with existing students and faculty.

Professor Spier, in his address, handed out the degrees to the graduating class and assured them that they are now part of a global community and a Kingston alumni. He also emphasised the importance of making things that have an impact locally and globally.

Ms. Ure, on the other hand, encouraged students to experiment, create, make mistakes, and always be eager to learn. She also distributed the Outstanding Academic Performance Awards and the Overall Achievement Awards to deserving students.

During their visit to India, Professor Spier and Ms. Ure visited the campus of our institution and interacted with students and faculty, enjoying the work on display. This was Professor Spier's second visit to the campus, after the first visit during the institution's initiation, six years ago.

The day was not just about the students, as members of faculty also received Postgraduate Certificates for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from the Vice-Chancellor. The ceremony concluded with Dr. Jitin Chadha acknowledging the hard work and perseverance of the first graduating batch.

The convocation ceremony was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the students, faculty, and staff at IIT Gandhinagar, and a celebration of their achievements. It marked a new beginning for the graduating class, as they step into the world with their degrees and the blessings of their mentors.
