Collaboration introduces reliable news to scholastic community
The News Movement, a renowned organisation dedicated to authentic news and social change, has partnered with Next-Gen Media, a leading college and university accommodation network. This unique collaboration aims to revolutionise client engagement methods and address the issue of misinformation among Gen Z students.
Lotte Jones, Chief Commercial Officer at The News Movement, emphasises the importance of combating misinformation, particularly in light of recent events that have seen misinformation spread rapidly online, leading to riots. She believes that taking news to where young people spend their time is crucial.
The partnership focuses on expanding the reach and impact of trusted, authentic voices in digital spaces. It does this by connecting on-the-ground organisers with native online practitioners, utilising relational organising enhanced by digital tools like memes, viral social media templates, and message threads. This approach makes movement building more visible and influential among Gen Z audiences.
The core strategy of the partnership relies on trust as infrastructure, ensuring creators and projects are accountable to social movements, not just online virality. This approach directly addresses misinformation while effectively engaging young people in civic and cultural conversations.
The collaboration is expected to broaden The News Movement's reach to a wider demographic, potentially opening new avenues for client engagement on digital platforms. It will enable clients to engage with Gen Z across digital and social channels, offering new opportunities for clients to connect with this demographic.
Students will be able to view the latest news updates on campus during the first academic term, with content offered in the form of snapshots of information, complete with QR codes for further learning. The partnership will also likely expand the digital and social presence of The News Movement, reshaping their future campaigns and redefining client engagement strategies.
The goal of the partnership is to encourage discussions around current topics and mitigate the risks of online misinformation. By bringing credible news to students and engaging them in meaningful conversations, the partnership is set to transform future campaigns and have a significant impact on the way news is consumed by the Gen Z demographic.
