Conflict in Sudan Displaces Millions, Half the Population Needs Aid

The ongoing conflict in Sudan has left half of its population in dire need of humanitarian aid. Heavy rains and limited shelter in Gedaref state, along with Rapid Support Forces (RSF) incursions, have exacerbated the crisis. Meanwhile, over 150,000 people from Sennar state have been displaced in recent weeks due to RSF raids.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports that around two million people have returned to their home areas between November 2024 and July 2025. However, the overall displacement figure stands at over 10 million, with nearly 7.8 million internally displaced and more than 2.2 million having fled to other countries. The conflict has also fueled a hunger crisis, making it the primary driver of migration in Darfur.

The expansion of RSF into Gedaref state poses additional risks. This region hosts 668,000 people and is home to 40,000 Ethiopian refugees, primarily Tigrayans, who are now facing increased threats.

The conflict in Sudan continues to displace people and cause humanitarian needs at an alarming rate. With half the population in need of aid and over 10 million displaced, international efforts are crucial to address the crisis and protect vulnerable populations.
