Main Customs Office Schweinfurt Hosts Open House Event on July 13, 2024
The Main Customs Office Schweinfurt is inviting the public to an Open House event on July 13, 2024, at the Schweinfurt Customs Office. This event aims to educate students, interested citizens, and representatives from politics and cooperating agencies about the tasks performed by the customs administration.
The event will take place from 10:00 to 15:00, with media representatives invited to visit at 10:00 and participate in a guided tour at 10:30. Activities for the youngest visitors will also be available throughout the day.
Highlights of the event include demonstrations by customs dogs at 11:00 and 14:00, as well as presentations of various control situations in different enforcement areas of the customs service. Visitors can expect to learn about the importance of customs duties, import and export clearance, and the enforcement of sanctions.
The Main Customs Office Schweinfurt is the regional customs office for Lower and Upper Franconia, employing approximately 700 staff members. Franziska Schubert, who has been the head of the Zollamt Schweinfurt (Customs Office Schweinfurt) since July 13, 2024, will be in attendance.
In addition to collecting duties and taxes, the Main Customs Office Schweinfurt is involved in consumer protection, ensuring smooth international goods traffic, preventing and combating undeclared work, cross-border serious and organized crime, and money laundering. Last year, the Schweinfurt customs office collected 1.8 billion euros for the federal budget and seized over 400,000 smuggled cigarettes.
Courts have imposed over 53 years of imprisonment for illegal employment and tax evasion related to the Schweinfurt customs office. The Open House event will also feature information booths on aspects of smuggling, illegal employment prevention, prosecution of criminal offenses, and administrative offenses.
Interested parties can learn about the requirements for employment, the course of training, and dual studies at the customs service through career and recruitment counseling. Food and drink will be provided, and limited public parking is available around the event grounds and in the immediate vicinity.
