The French Ministry of the Armed Forces has partnered with Airbus Defence and Space, along with co-contractor Neverhack, in an eight-year framework contract aimed at bolstering the cybersecurity expertise of its military personnel[1][2][3].

Under the terms of this agreement, Airbus Defence and Space will develop, produce, and maintain cyber training platforms, as well as provide training and coaching services[1][2][3]. The scope of this contract extends to the creation of operational cyber defence scenarios that cover a broad spectrum of cyber threats, including malware, denial of service, data theft, and information manipulation[1][2][3].

At the heart of this initiative is the establishment of a cyber defence training centre at the Cyber Defence Academy of the Cyber Defence Command (COMCYBER) in the Rennes region[1][2][3]. This centre will serve as a hub for the operational preparation of cyber specialists and the simulation of attack-defence scenarios relevant to military operations and large-scale exercises like Orion and DefNet[1][2][3].

The training program encompasses all branches of the French military, with the ultimate goal of increasing the number and effectiveness of cybersecurity experts and strengthening the armed forces' cyber defence capabilities and operational maturity[1][2][3]. The platforms will replicate military networks and systems, including Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) and weapon systems[2][3].

To ensure the platforms remain current in the face of emerging threats, Airbus Defence and Space will collaborate with startups and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), particularly in the area of artificial intelligence[2][3].

Airbus Defence and Space's CyberRange platforms have been in use for nearly a decade, primarily in sensitive sectors for training, exercises, challenges, and events like 'Passe ton Hack D'abord'[4]. The platforms are also employed by COMCYBER and the French Ministry of National Education, Higher Education, and Research for training 7,000 pupils and students[5].

In addition to the training centre, Airbus Defence and Space provides Security Operation Centres (SOCs) for the Ministry of the Armed Forces in mainland France, as well as Tactical SOCs for external operations (OPEX) to oversee the security of information and communication systems[6]. These efforts collectively contribute to the operational preparation of cyber warriors through specific training courses for different cyber specialists.

This strategic partnership represents a significant step forward in modernizing and enhancing cybersecurity expertise throughout the French Armed Forces via advanced training infrastructure, realistic simulation environments, and evolving operational scenarios developed and maintained by Airbus Defence and Space and Neverhack.

  1. This strategic partnership between the French Ministry of the Armed Forces, Airbus Defence and Space, and co-contractor Neverhack, extends beyond military cybersecurity, as Airbus Defence and Space's platforms are also utilized in sectors like education and self-development, training over 7,000 pupils and students.
  2. As part of the initiative, the business sector plays a vital role, with Airbus Defence and Space collaborating with startups and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), particularly those focusing on artificial intelligence, to ensure the cyber training platforms stay current in the face of emerging threats.
  3. The agreement goes beyond just cybersecurity and finance, as Airbus Defence and Space provides Security Operation Centres (SOCs) for the Ministry of the Armed Forces in mainland France, extending their services to cover the security of information and communication systems in the entire business spectrum, including technology and education-and-self-development.
