Dane County's Boys and Girls Club secures a $2 million charitable contribution.
The Boys and Girls Club of Dane County (BGCDC) has received a significant boost to its college readiness program, thanks to a generous donation from Ascendium Education Group. The $2 million gift establishes an endowment fund for the AVID/TOPS Program, ensuring its long-term sustainability and providing students with real-world experiences and academic support before they head off to college.
The AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) component is a four-year elective focused on academic skill-building, while TOPS (Teens of Promise) offers mentoring, college visits, internships, and career exploration. The TOPS College Success Program also helps graduates navigate college challenges and persist to earn degrees.
Ascendium Education Group's gift reflects its commitment to expanding educational and career opportunities, reducing barriers to student success, and enabling every learner to reach their full potential. The donation is a key part of BGCDC’s new four-year, $25 million capital campaign aimed at strengthening education, workforce programming, and meeting future organizational needs.
Taylor Jackson, the chief education and people officer at the Boys and Girls Club, expressed her gratitude and excitement about the donation. She mentioned that with the funding secured for the next year's programming, they can now think about the future more strategically. This donation will enable the Boys and Girls Club to think further into the future without worrying about funding, allowing them to focus on providing the best possible opportunities for their students.
In 2025, 234 students in the AVID/TOPS Program at the Boys and Girls Club graduated from high school with a 100% college placement rate, demonstrating the program's effectiveness in preparing students for success in college, careers, and life. With the support of Ascendium Education Group, BGCDC aims to continue this trend and provide even more students with the resources they need to succeed.
The Boys and Girls Club of Dane County would like to express its deepest gratitude to Ascendium Education Group for its generous donation and commitment to their mission. This investment in the AVID/TOPS Program will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the lives of countless students and the community as a whole.
