Dr. Ala Stanford Enters Pennsylvania's 3rd District Race, Leading Polls

A crowded Democratic field in Pennsylvania's 3rd District has welcomed a new contender. Dr. Ala Stanford, a physician and public health leader, has announced her candidacy. She joins a list that includes state Sen. Sharif Street, state Reps. Chris Rabb and Morgan Cephas, among others.

Dr. Stanford, a Philadelphia native and graduate of Penn State University, brings a wealth of experience to the race. She is currently a professor of practice at the University of Pennsylvania and director of community outreach for the Penn Institute for RNA Innovation. Her medical background is impressive; she became the first Black woman pediatric surgeon trained entirely in the United States.

Dr. Stanford's commitment to public health is evident in her work. In 2020, she and her team provided free COVID-19 tests and later vaccinations to communities of color in Philadelphia. Her dedication to serving marginalized communities has earned her endorsements, including that of retiring U.S. Rep. Dwight Evans.

Dr. Stanford's entry into the race brings a strong voice in public health and community service. She has garnered 18% support in a recent poll, leading the pack after voters were introduced to the candidates. Her support crosses multiple demographic groups, indicating a broad appeal. As the race continues, voters will have the opportunity to learn more about Dr. Stanford's vision for Pennsylvania's 3rd District.
