Dr. James W. Gregory, currently serving as the dean of the College of Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Daytona Beach Campus, has had an illustrious career in the field of aviation and aerospace engineering.
His academic journey began at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1999, after five years of study. This was followed by a Master's degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Purdue University in 2002, and a Ph.D. in the same field in 2005.
Before joining academia, Dr. Gregory gained valuable industry experience working as an engineering co-op at Delta Air Lines from 1995 to 1998. His love for aviation also led him to become an instrument-rated private pilot, with over 400 flight hours under his belt.
Dr. Gregory's career in academia began in 2008 when he joined The Ohio State University as an assistant professor. He rose through the ranks, becoming the chair of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, a position he held until 2021. In addition, he served as the director of the Aerospace Research Center at The Ohio State University from November 2017.
During his time at NASA Glenn Research Center, Dr. Gregory completed an internship from June 2002 to August 2002. He also had the opportunity to work as a visiting research scientist at the US Air Force Academy for two years, from December 2005 to December 2007, and did an internship at Tohoku University in Japan for a month, from July 2004 to August 2004.
In 2013, Dr. Gregory became an associate professor at The Ohio State University. His research focus spans various areas throughout his career.
