Palucca School of Dance Turns 30: Celebrating a Decade-Long Support for Future Dance Talents
In the heart of Dresden, the Palucca School of Dance marks the milestone of the 30th anniversary of its support association. Founded by dance enthusiasts in 1995, the association now boasts over 100 members, many of whom are alumni of the prestigious dance school.
Chair of the association, Christina Flume, explains that the primary aim of the organization has always been—and continues to be—to support the students of the school, both intellectually and materially. "For 30 years, our mission has been to accompany the young dancers on their journey to an artistic future, providing a strong foundation," she says.
The school's namesake, Gret Palucca, undoubtedly would have approved of the association's commitment. Born in 1902, she was a dance legend in her lifetime, laying the groundwork for her world-renowned school a century ago. Today, the only independent dance academy in Germany bears her name, synonymous with contemporary, classical, and improvisational dance education.
The association's philosophy mirrors that of its founder, emphasizing expression, individuality, and enthusiasm for dance. Through supporting student projects and bearing the cost of essential items like dance clothing and shoes, the association plays a significant role in the students' training.
One such project is the "pointe shoe sponsorship," which provides each student with two pairs of pointe shoes annually. Rector Katharina Christl points out that every donation fosters the future of dance as an art form and supports promising young dancers on stages across Germany.

Training commences as young as age 10, with children learning in orientation classes before moving on to talent promotion classes from grades 7 through 10. Admission to the three-year Bachelor of Dance program takes place in the final year, and the school also offers Master's programs in Dance Pedagogy and Choreography alongside a Master Class program.
