The Fachinformationsdienst Politikwissenschaft (FID) Pollux at the University of Bremen has secured funding for a fourth phase, covering the years 2025 to 2028. The German Research Foundation has granted 1.9 million euros for this period.

The focus of the fourth funding phase will be on expanding and enhancing digital services, supporting open science and open access, strengthening user support and community building, improving metadata and information quality, and inclusion of new content types and resources.

The digital services expansion will involve further development of digital infrastructures and services aimed at improving access to political science information resources. This includes better integration of databases, digital archives, and innovative search and analysis tools.

The open science and open access focus will promote the facilitation of open science practices within the political science research community. This may involve providing infrastructure for open publications and supporting data sharing.

Strengthening user support and community building will enhance training, consulting, and support tailored to the specific needs of political science researchers, practitioners, and students. This also entails fostering networking and collaboration within the political science research community.

Improving metadata and information quality will focus on improving the quality, granularity, and interoperability of metadata to ensure better discoverability and usability of political science content.

The inclusion of new content types and resources will incorporate new forms of digital content relevant to political science, such as research data, multimedia materials, and gray literature, to enrich the repository and resources available to users.

These focus areas aim to solidify FID Pollux as a comprehensive, user-centered, and forward-looking information service dedicated to political science research in Germany.

Dr. Michael Czolkoß-Hettwer, Project Coordination for the FID - Pollux, can be reached at [email protected] or +49 421 218-59586.

The FID is operated by the State and University Library (SuUB) Bremen, GESIS - Leibniz-Institute for the Social Sciences, and the Research Data Center Qualiservice at the University of Bremen. The FID is part of the DFG funding program "Fachinformationsdienste für die Wissenschaft."

The FID will also focus on expanding to include research data, gray literature, abstracts, and citations, and strengthening research data management for qualitative political science data.

The research portal Pollux currently comprises over 13 million documents. The FID will focus on further developing the analysis tool "PoliCorp" for structured political text data during this funding phase.

The FID aims to further develop and sustainably strengthen the information infrastructure for political science research in Germany.

  1. The fourth funding phase of FID Pollux will prioritize education and self-development by further developing the analysis tool "PoliCorp" for structured political text data.
  2. In the field of policy and legislation, the FID will focus on expanding to include research data, gray literature, abstracts, and citations, and strengthening research data management for qualitative political science data.
  3. General news and learning opportunities will be readily available as the FID expands its digital services, including online-education resources and innovative search and analysis tools, for the political science research community.
