Expanded campus facilities characterize higher-education institutions
The city has announced plans for the expansion of several schools within its jurisdiction, with the Sophie-Scholl-Gymnasium in Sterkrade and the Wunderschule in Lirich set to receive significant upgrades.
In Sterkrade, the city has approved a new expansion building for the Sophie-Scholl-Gymnasium. The exact amount of investment for this project has not been specified, but it is expected that construction will commence soon. Temporarily, eight classes will be housed using "space cells" starting from the 2026/2027 school year.
Meanwhile, the Wunderschule in Lirich is also set for expansion. The city has allocated over three million euros for the construction of a new cafeteria, with plans for another separate from the one mentioned earlier. Construction for the new cafeteria is expected to begin next fall.
Elsewhere, the Heinrich-Heine-Gymnasium on Lohstraße is scheduled to receive a four-story extension, with the city investing approximately 8.2 million euros. However, no timeline for construction has been provided. The financing for this project is being coordinated by the city administration of Düsseldorf.
It is worth noting that the Sophie-Scholl-Gymnasium in Sterkrade is the only school mentioned in this article that is receiving a new expansion, while the Wunderschule in Lirich is the only school receiving a new cafeteria.
In Sterkrade, temporary solutions using containers will help accommodate the eight classes during the construction period. The Wunderschule in Lirich, on the other hand, will continue to operate as usual until the construction of the new cafeterias is complete.
These developments are part of the city's ongoing commitment to providing quality education facilities for its students. More updates on these projects will be announced as they become available.
