Endicott College Upgrades Collaborative Classroom with Extron NAV Pro AV Over IP System
Endicott College, a small liberal arts college north of Boston, has recently modernized one of its collaborative classrooms with advanced AV capabilities using Extron NAV Pro AV over IP products. The classroom, located in the Garrish School of Business' Team Building Room, is designed for 40-48 students to work in groups.
The upgrade has resulted in a more dynamic and effective educational environment, offering several benefits:
- Seamless AV Distribution: The Extron NAV Pro AV over IP solution allows for high-quality, low-latency video and audio distribution across the classroom network, enabling smooth sharing of multimedia content.
- Enhanced Collaboration: Faculty and students can easily share content from multiple sources simultaneously, fostering a more interactive and engaging learning environment.
- Scalability and Flexibility: The system supports connecting various devices and extending AV signals throughout the campus, making it adaptable for future expansions or technology upgrades.
- Simplified Control: Integration with centralized AV control systems simplifies operation for instructors, reducing technical barriers and allowing them to focus on teaching.
- Improved Reliability: Extron’s robust AV over IP technology ensures consistent performance and stable connectivity, minimizing downtime and technical issues during classes.
The Team Building Room uses eight 5x7-foot Spectrum Industries InVision collaboration tables, each accommodating a team of six students. At each team table, a 43-inch 4K LED display is mounted on each side of the pedestal that joins two attached tables, giving each team its own local display.
At the instructor's station, an Extron TouchLink Pro 10-inch touchpanel is used to send any team's content, as well as content from the instructor, to the other table displays and the room's projection systems. The instructor station also has its own connection cables for laptops or other devices.
The instructor station houses a PC, audio amplifier, Extron IP Link Pro control processor, and the NAVigator System Manager, which controls the NAV Pro AV over IP system. The new system also includes 10 Extron NAV E 101 encoders and 11 NAV SD101 scaling decoders. The Team Building room now includes a NAVigator with Link License upgrade to include 48 endpoints.
The existing two NEC laser projectors and Da-Lite Advantage Electrol projection screens were reused in the upgrade. Eight media collaboration tables and a Spectrum Industries Freedom XRS Elite height-adjustable lectern were repurposed from existing furniture.
The classroom was originally equipped with an Extron XTP system, but it has been replaced with new Extron NAV Pro AV over IP products. The room's control system has been upgraded to be compatible with Extron Global Configurator Pro and the latest Extron Global Viewer Enterprise management software.
Endicott College has two other Team Building rooms that are candidates for similar upgrades, with the second room conversion currently under budget review. There are several theater and event spaces on campus that have regular requests for capabilities outside of what the rooms were designed to do, and NAV could potentially be a game changer in system design for these spaces. Furthermore, the upgrade has resulted in fewer calls to the help desk at Endicott College.
The installation of the new AV system was completed within a short window due to classroom schedules, in partnership with Integrated Multimedia Solutions (IMS). This upgrade has undoubtedly contributed to a more modern and efficient educational environment at Endicott College.
- The Extron NAV Pro AV over IP system, implemented in Endicott College's Team Building Room, allows for a seamless integration of technology in business education, promoting effective learning and collaboration among students.
- In the realm of education-and-self-development, the upgraded Team Building Room at Endicott College serves as a model for integration of technology, offering a scalable, efficient, and interactive learning space for products-based learning scenarios.
