Facebook & UWaterloo Team Up to Shape Future of Learning & Work with AI

Facebook and the University of Waterloo have joined forces to explore the future of learning and work readiness through AI. The strategic partnership, announced recently, will focus on the role of AI in shaping these areas.

The centerpiece of this collaboration is the Futures Lab: An AI Prototyping Workshop. Students will co-develop cutting-edge prototypes and display their projects at a symposium, starting with the first workshop on October 6. This hands-on experience aligns perfectly with the University of Waterloo's renowned co-op program, which emphasizes experiential learning.

Professor Edith Law, an esteemed Computer Science professor and Executive Director of the University of Waterloo's Future of Work Institute, will serve as the inaugural Facebook Chair. Dr. Karyn Moffat has been appointed as the holder of the Facebook Chair for the Future of Work and Learning. Facebook's contribution of $1 million CAD will establish this chair.

The author, an alumnus of the University of Waterloo, has witnessed firsthand the impact of the institution's innovative learning approach. With Facebook's history of supporting programs like Kids on Campus and Women in Computer Science, this new partnership promises to further enrich the educational experience and prepare students for the future.
