A Warm Welcome to New Senior Care Professionals at the Ev. Foundation Volmarstein
Foundation strengthens its efforts with new contributors from India
We're excited to announce the arrival of 11 eager junior caregivers from India joining our senior care team here at Ev. Foundation Volmarstein! These dedicated individuals recently attended a welcome day and are now gearing up for their new roles in our senior homes in Hagen, Gevelsberg, Herdecke, Wetter, and Schwelm. "The elderly population is a vital part of society, and I can't wait to care for them," beams Anitta Thomas (4th from left, bottom), who will be stationed at the Ev. Senior Home in Haspe. Ritta Roy (3rd from right, back) is also ready to join the team at the senior home in Mops, and she's thrilled at the prospects that Germany offers, remarking, "There are numerous opportunities to work and fulfill dreams here."
The new Indian care professionals all share the sentiment that working conditions in their home country are less than desirable, with salaries particularly low. Birgit Partu, director of the Ev. Senior Home in Haspe, acknowledges the invaluable contributions these caregivers bring to our team. "They are highly motivated and possess a wealth of expertise," she states. All the Indian professionals hold bachelor's degrees and boast extensive professional experience in senior care. In light of the current skilled labor shortages, our foundation often seeks foreign professionals to help bridge the gap. Stefanie Pfeiffer and Liya Cherian oversee recruitment, orientation, and language courses for our new arrivals.
In addition to their professional training, these newcomers will live in foundation community housing, conveniently located near their respective workplaces via walk or public transportation. Sabrina Bos is responsible for their professional integration, and she'll be accompanying them on-site for seamless transitioning. Our facilities offer mentorship to support our international employees, including Lars Döppelmann and Stefanie Gunkel, who provide social support and information about local affairs, such as doctors, bus schedules, and leisure activities. The foundation sets a B2 language level requirement, which corresponds to daily German conversation — a standard slightly higher than the officially mandated level in Volmarstein.
While research on Ev. Foundation Volmarstein's specific strategies for recruiting and integrating foreign senior care professionals, particularly from India, was limited, I've outlined some common best practices that may be relevant to understand the broader picture:
- Down-to-earth recruiting strategies: Building relationships with international networks, universities, or healthcare providers can aid in identifying qualified candidates. Leveraging social media and online platforms can also help expand the search and simplify the application process.
- Compliance with legal and regulatory requirements: Navigating complex visa and work permit processes is essential, as is verifying the transferability of qualifications from India to the host country.
- A supportive infrastructure: Providing language support and cultural adaptation programs can help new recruits adjust to their new environment, combating isolation.
- Professional opportunities for growth: Offering continuous training and education to further enhance skills and adapt to local healthcare standards can be beneficial.
- Retention tactics: Competitive compensation and benefits, along with open feedback mechanisms, can help attract and retain top talent.
