Growth and Development of Children (Birth to 3 years)
Unit 1 of the syllabus covers the principles and milestones of growth and development in children from birth to 3 years, including physical, motor, social, emotional, and language development. It also emphasises understanding the physical, social, and emotional needs of children during this critical period.
Role of Media and Entertainment
Unit 2 delves into the influence of various media, such as books, music, rhymes, games, radio, TV, and video, on children up to 3 years of age.
Play
Unit 3 focuses on the significance of play in children's development from birth to 3 years, discussing its types, characteristics, and appropriate play materials.
Nutrients
Unit 4 covers the functions, sources, deficiency symptoms, and conservation of essential nutrients, including carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals (iron, calcium, iodine), and vitamins (A, B, B2, C, D).
Meal Planning
Unit 5 introduces the concept of meal planning, discussing factors that affect meal planning, such as sex, climate, occupation, physical needs, family size, economic status, food availability, family traditions, likes/dislikes, and occasions. The syllabus also covers food groups suggested by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and their use in planning a balanced diet.
In addition to these units, the syllabus covers other topics such as quality check of apparel, money management, resources available to the family, care of clothes, consumer education, and wise use of resources.
The syllabus serves as a guide for curriculum development and teaching methods in all affiliated schools across Uttarakhand. It aims to provide practical and theoretical knowledge essential for understanding the holistic development of children and nutritional well-being in family settings, tailored for class 10 students under UBSE.
