Gallery JD Malat in Dubai showcases 'Made in the UAE' exhibit, highlighting up-and-coming artists from the Emirates.
In the dynamic, ambitious, and evolving UAE art scene, JD Malat Gallery has taken a significant step forward. Jean-David Malat, the founder of the gallery, has announced a new curatorial initiative called 'Made in the UAE'. This initiative aims to spotlight contemporary artists working within the United Arab Emirates.
Malat believes that true cultural growth happens when global and local voices connect, and by investing in local ecosystems, opportunities, exchange, and international stages for artists are created. He emphasises that JD Malat Gallery has been committed to connecting global and local voices since opening its Dubai gallery.
The 'Made in the UAE' initiative is open to artists working in painting, photography, sculpture, installation, and video. Malat seeks submissions that show authenticity, originality, and a strong artistic voice. He encourages young artists to be fearless and true to their voice, and not to try to fit into trends.
To review entries and select five artists for a group exhibition at JD Malat Gallery Dubai in December 2025, a panel of regional curators and international art professionals will be assembled. The five artists selected for this prestigious exhibition will join an esteemed group of artists, including Walid Raad, Tala Madani, Ghada Amer, Hassan Hajjaj, and Paola Pivi.
Malat sees the UAE as a crossroads of cultures, ideas, and influences, providing artists with both a global audience and a supportive environment. He hopes the 'Made in the UAE' initiative will increase the visibility of Emirati and UAE-based artists on the international stage.
Malat believes that the UAE is a uniquely fertile ground for nurturing contemporary art due to its cultural diversity and supportive environment. He is optimistic that the 'Made in the UAE' initiative will contribute to the continued growth and development of the UAE's vibrant art scene.
