German primary school team secures national championship title at Bremer Primary School
In a thrilling display of strategic prowess, the Pulverberg Primary School's chess team emerged victorious at the German School Chess Championships held in Willingen, Hessen, from May 9 to 12. The team, consisting of Noah Etienne Hesterberg, Noah Stulgies, Tammo Mettenbrink, Mattis Leppin, and Milav Elalo, won all seven rounds, losing only once and drawing twice in 28 games.
The championships, organized by the German Chess Youth, saw teams of four competing in various categories. The Pulverberg Primary School's team was a favorite due to several team members having prior experience in chess tournaments.
The team's victory was significant as it was in the category for first and second graders. This achievement, however, does not seem to be reflected in the available records, as there are no search results specifying which Bremen school won the team competition for this category in any year.
Minister of Children and Education, Sascha Karolin Aulepp, congratulated the team on May 22. In a statement, Aulepp praised the team's performance, stating that playing chess trains the brain, boosts self-confidence, and is fun. Aulepp also referred to the team as 'Walle' in the congratulatory statement.
The Pulverberg Primary School, along with the Karl-Marx School in Bremerhaven and Burgdamm Primary School, qualified for the German championships at the Bremen state school chess championships. Unfortunately, there are no records indicating which of these schools won the team competition for the general primary school class (1st-4th grade) at the German championships.
A photo of the winning team was taken by Mareike Leppin. The photo shows Noah Etienne Hesterberg, Noah Stulgies, Tammo Mettenbrink, Mattis Leppin, and Milav Elalo from left to right.
The team's success at the German School Chess Championships is a testament to their dedication, skill, and teamwork. They are undoubtedly a shining example of what can be achieved with hard work and a love for the game.
