Giessen's Student Services Wins Big for Vegan Options

Student Services Giessen has been recognised for its commitment to vegan nutrition. Two of its facilities, CampusTor and Café am Kunstweg, have been awarded top honours in PETA's 2025 ranking. This is a first for the University of Giessen, highlighting the growing demand for plant-based options among students.

The award-winning venues, along with Mensa OBS, offer consistently vegan menus that change daily. This dedication has earned them a green leaf rating from PETA, which has adapted its ranking system to reflect the growing trend towards plant-based diets.

Mensa Otto-Beaghle Street has also upped its vegan game, improving its rating and providing a comprehensive salad bar with vegan components. The kitchen team even produces plant-based alternative products in-house. Student Services Giessen's facilities are now among the most vegan-friendly in Germany, with 29 participants in the 2025 PETA ranking. This reflects the growing variety of plant-based offers at universities nationwide.

The awards are a testament to Student Services Giessen's close collaboration with students and their requests for vegan and vegetarian options. The consistent provision of daily vegan dishes, staff training, transparent labeling, and thematic action weeks have all contributed to this success. The University of Giessen can be proud of its leading role in promoting vegan-friendly dining options.
