Health School Title Granted to Erich-Kästner Comprehensive School
The Erich-Kästner-Gesamtschule has been honoured with the "Healthy School in the Wittekind Circle" award, recognising its commitment to promoting health and wellbeing among students and staff. This prestigious accolade, supported by the district health department for the past nine years, is a testament to the school's dedication to fostering a healthy learning environment.
Not all children and young people receive the necessary tools at home to understand the importance of health, making schools an essential platform for teaching these vital lessons. The Erich-Kästner-Gesamtschule has implemented various health-related measures, including topics on dental health, sexuality, alcohol consumption, mental health, and smoking behaviour.
The award was presented by Dr. Isabell Schultheis and Renata Lleshi, the project leader of the "Healthy Schools" program. Other schools receiving the award this year include primary schools in Westerenger and Löhne-Obernbeck, and the Elisabeth-von-der-Pfalz-Berufskolleg in Herford.
Pascal Kramer, a sports scientist and trainer in the "link moves" program, was present at the Erich-Kästner-Gesamtschule's certification. He led students through exercises designed to improve coordination, concentration, learning ability, and motivation, highlighting the benefits of such activities, particularly during stressful learning phases.
The Health Conference, which provides helpful information about free individual and group offers for students and teaching staff, offers an overview of contact points in the Herford district that advise young people, parents, and teaching staff on the topic of "growing up and teaching health." Schools interested in the "Healthy Schools" program can gather information for the current school year from the business office of the Health Conference, accessible at www.ourwebsite/Kommunale-Gesundheitskonferenz/.
Health is a central prerequisite for successful learning, personal development, and social participation. By prioritising health and wellbeing, schools play a crucial role in shaping the future of their students. The Erich-Kästner-Gesamtschule's commitment to this cause is commendable and serves as an inspiration for other educational institutions.
