Herkenrath School Center to Get Major Upgrade with New Classroom Building and Renovation
The Herkenrath school center is set for a significant upgrade. The local authorities have finalized the location for a new classroom building, which will be constructed on an undeveloped plot south of the Realschule. This project, led by Fachbereich 8 and carried out by Schulbau GmbH, aims to implement politically decided school building measures. Additionally, the outdated Realschule schoolyard will undergo a renovation and redesign.
Preparatory clearing work for the new building is scheduled to begin next week. This will involve felling five necessary trees, with potentially two more if preservation attempts fail. The city's green department, StadtGruen, will coordinate compensatory measures for the tree felling. The new modular building is a response to the increased space requirement due to the return to the nine-year educational pathway (G9).
The completion of both projects, including the schoolyard renovation, is targeted for the school year 2026/27. An information event for interested citizens and the school community will be organized in the near future to keep everyone informed about the progress and plans.
The new classroom building and schoolyard renovation at the Herkenrath school center are expected to significantly improve the spatial situation of the Realschule and reorganize the area for the Gymnasium. Under the leadership of Fachbereich 8 and Schulbau GmbH, these projects aim to provide a better learning environment for students and enhance the school center's functionality.
