"Highlighting EIOH Resident: Dr. Harold Nii-Aponsah"
Dr. Harold Nii-Aponsah, a rising star in the field of dental public health, has been making waves with his impressive accomplishments and unique personality. His journey began at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health (EIOH), where his first day was a euphoric and surreal experience.
Since then, Dr. Nii-Aponsah has been awarded a Research Fellowship at the American Institute of Dental Public Health and was accepted into their Dental Public Health Leadership Academy's year-long leadership fellowship. He has also been appointed to serve on the Board of Directors at the American Institute of Dental Public Health for the next three years.
Dr. Nii-Aponsah's academic achievements are equally impressive. He has a published systematic review and four manuscripts ready for publication. He recently passed the 2024 American Board of Dental Public Health Qualifying Exam, a major step towards becoming Board Certified/Diplomate.
In the realm of dental research, Dr. Nii-Aponsah has made significant contributions. He was recognized for his work on the State of Veteran Oral Health in Iowa Report, and he presented a poster at the New York State Oral Health Coalition in Albany.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Nii-Aponsah enjoys the "green scenery" in Rochester, particularly the parks and the local breweries. He is a baseball fan, often watching the Rochester Red Wings play or Major League games.
Dr. Nii-Aponsah has a fear of snakes (ophidiophobia), but this hasn't stopped him from travelling to his favourite place, Niagara Falls, both in New York and Canada. If he could be anything, he would choose to be a Genie, granting people their wishes.
Looking back, Dr. Nii-Aponsah credits his father as a great inspiration. Interestingly, if not a dentist, he would have chosen a career as a teacher. His best advice is, "If you have to do something, do it WELL! Do it like your life depends on it, or just don't it at all."
As for his future plans, details are yet to be revealed. However, after completing his residency at EIOH, Dr. Nii-Aponsah will begin the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program at Eastman. He cannot live without his laptop, and he is very jumpy, but these quirks only add to his charm and make him an unforgettable figure in the world of dental public health.
Dr. Nii-Aponsah, in his free time, delves into the realms of education-and-self-development, aspiring to be a teacher if not a dentist. As he embarks on the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program at Eastman, he might also consider integrating health research into his lifestyle, further broadening his impact in the field of dental public health.
