In the vast expanse of our planet, there are distinct regions that host a unique blend of climate, vegetation, and animal life. These regions, known as biomes, are the focus of an engaging learning activity designed for kids of all ages.

The Desert Biome is the first on our journey. Characterised by minimal precipitation, temperatures ranging from scorching hot to freezing cold, and sparse vegetation, deserts are home to species that have adapted to these extreme conditions. The Sahara and Gobi Deserts are prime examples of this biome [1][4].

Next, we venture to the Tropical Rainforest Biome. Found in warm, humid areas with high annual rainfall, these forests are teeming with biodiversity, boasting tall trees, vines, and shrubs. The Amazon and Congo Rainforests are well-known examples [3].

As we move towards the poles, we find ourselves in the Arctic Biome, or tundra. This biome is characterised by extremely cold temperatures, minimal precipitation, permafrost soil, and low-growing vegetation. Animal life is limited to cold-adapted species, such as polar bears with a thick layer of blubber under their skin [1][2].

Lastly, covering over 70% of the Earth's surface, we find the Ocean Biome. Marine ecosystems in the ocean support vast biodiversity, including fish, marine mammals, corals, and plankton. Ocean biomes include varied aquatic habitats like deep ocean, coral reefs, and coastal regions [5].

Marine plants in the ocean can get all the carbon dioxide and nutrients they need directly from the water, a feature that sets them apart from land plants. Meanwhile, animals like camels in the desert biome have unique adaptations, such as the ability to store water in their humps, allowing them to survive for extended periods without drinking [2].

The biome lapbook project is a fun and interactive way to learn about these diverse biomes. The project involves colouring and gluing a cover, the "What is a biome?" page, and mini-booklets about each individual biome. The finished lapbook includes circles with animals in them, which are glued next to the biome they belong to [6].

Older kids can use the questions provided as a writing prompt for a STEM notebook, while younger kids can use the questions as a fun conversation topic. This activity not only educates about the different biomes but also encourages creative expression and hands-on learning [7].
