Overtime Snafu: Schools in Saxony-Anhalt Face Scrutiny for Dubious Teacher Claims

Over time, the validity of teachers' overtime claims has been questioned due to inconsistencies in land-based checks. - Investigating Inaccurate Overtime Payments Among Teachers in the Given Nation

In the educational hub of Saxony-Anhalt, a storm has brewed over alleged oversight in the recording of teachers' overtime. CDU politician Eva Feußner, the Education Minister of the region, brought the issue to light during a parliamentary question-and-answer session, stating that 49 schools have been red-flagged for "completely incorrect" claims. These schools are undergoing scrutiny alongside the State School Office, as "serious errors" have been identified. The possibility of disciplinary action looms, according to Feußner.

This dust-up centers around what Feußner calls "additional hours" that crop up during a typical school year. These are, in essence, overtime hours accrued through a variety of substitution duties. They are settled at the end of the academic year.

When quizzed, Feußner commented, "That's a huge effort". Teachers log the additional hours, school principals gather and transmit them to the State School Office. Only additional teaching time is considered as additional time, as opposed to outings or other activities. Reports claim that some schools have included times that weren't teaching hours within their submissions.

Feüssner acknowledged delays in settling the additional hours from the preceding school year, citing the sheer magnitude of more than 700 schools in the country as a factor. Several faulty settlements by the schools have surfaced in checks, contributing to the holdup.

Currently, around half of the cases have been settled, Feußner shared. Additionally, the State School Office has been in touch with school principals about the errors. There's optimism that the settlement for the current school year will run more smoothly, according to the minister.
