JKLU's Institute of Design Makes History With Prestigious Don Norman Design Award 2025
JKLU's Institute of Design has made history by becoming the only Indian design institute to win the prestigious Don Norman Design Award (DNDA) 2025 for its B.Des and M.Des programmes. The Institute was recognised for its innovative approach to systems thinking and community linkages.
The award, established by renowned design luminary Professor Don Norman, honours educational programmes that demonstrate excellence in humanity-centred design education. JKLU's Institute of Design stood out for its innovative pedagogical approach, which prepares students for the real world through an empathic, participatory, and co-creative lens.
Professor A Balasubramaniam, Director of the Institute of Design at JKLU, expressed that the award validates the institution's systems thinking approach and pedagogy. The Institute was praised for its balance towards systems thinking and community linkages, making it a unique programme among the winners from nine countries.
The DNDA 2025 Laureates, including JKLU's Institute of Design, will be honoured at a ceremony during the DNDA Summit in Singapore from November 19-21, 2025. Professor Vijaysekhar Chellaboina, Vice Chancellor of JKLU, recognised the importance of the award, highlighting the Institute of Design's innovative approach. The Institute joins an elite group of design educators, setting a new standard for design education in India.
