Job-seekers flocking to CNE job fair today, following a surge in applications that broke previous records
Record Turnout at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) Job Fair
The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) is hosting a job fair at the Enercare Centre, and it's gearing up to be the largest recruitment event in the fair's history. The event, scheduled for Tuesday, is attracting a record number of job seekers, with over 54,000 online applications submitted for more than 5,000 seasonal positions available.
The available job positions at the CNE job fair include game attendants, food service workers, retail workers, cashiers, midway operators, and informational guides. Many employers are planning to conduct interviews and hire on the spot during the fair, which will take place in Hall C of the Enercare Centre from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The high turnout and record number of applications reflect the current challenging labour market, particularly for Canadian youth. Nationwide, the unemployment rate for Canadians aged 14 to 24 is approximately 14%, according to Statistics Canada. In the Greater Toronto Area, where the CNE is based, the unemployment rate is even higher, with nearly one in four teenagers aged 14 to 19 unemployed.
The CNE job fair is part of the larger Canadian National Exhibition, which runs from August 15 to September 1. Successful candidates will work during this period. The CNE is hoping to hire another 5,000 people for various positions, and one thousand jobs have already been filled ahead of the upcoming CNE season.
The job fair is not open to non-registered participants on Tuesday. Tickets must be shown at the door for entry. Only registered participants will be allowed into the event.
