July 2025 School Breaks in Telangana: Explore All Upcoming Holidays and School Shutdowns Detailed Here
Schools in the state of Telangana are gearing up for a month filled with cultural and religious celebrations, while also keeping a close eye on weather alerts issued by the Hyderabad Meteorological Department.
The Bonalu Festival, one of the most important cultural and religious festivals in Telangana, is set to take place on Monday, July 21, 2025. Schools across the state are expected to be closed on this day, as confirmed by the authorities. On the day of Bonalu, most government offices will also remain shut. Some institutions may declare a compensatory holiday on Monday, July 7, depending on their internal decisions or regional administrative guidelines.
The main Bonalu Festival celebration is scheduled for July 21. This regional festival, celebrated throughout July, especially in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, is a significant event in the state's calendar.
Another important observance in July is Muharram, which falls on Sunday, July 6. Schools in some areas, especially Hyderabad's Old City where Muharram is extensively observed, are likely to be closed on this optional holiday.
The Muharram holiday has been a topic of discussion in Telangana due to the Islamic lunar calendar. The crescent moon was sighted in India on June 26, making June 27 the first day of Muharram. Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, is now confirmed to be on Sunday, July 6.
In addition to these confirmed holidays, schools may also close temporarily due to intense rainfall, as a safety measure. The Hyderabad Meteorological Department has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall alerts across several districts of Telangana for the next three days. Northern districts are under an orange alert, and Hyderabad is expected to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds throughout the week.
However, at the moment, there is no specific indication of weather-related school closures in Telangana for July 2025. Schools have been closed preemptively due to heavy rainfall alerts in similar situations elsewhere in India, but no such alerts have been reported for July 2025 so far.
Parents and students are advised to stay updated through official government notifications and local school authorities for any announcements regarding rain-related holidays or any other last-minute changes beyond the confirmed dates.
The Muharram holiday on July 6 and the Bonalu holiday on July 21 make July 2025 a festive month for schools and colleges in Telangana. It is a time for celebration, but also a time to be vigilant and stay informed.
