Kickoff of unblemished scholastic activities in Kaarst
In a bid to ensure the safety of schoolchildren on the roads, the road safety council in Erie County has launched a series of initiatives aimed at promoting safe behaviours and injury prevention among young pedestrians and cyclists. One such initiative is the "Street Smart Erie County" campaign, which targets all road users, including school-aged children, with the goal of reducing motor vehicle crashes and pedestrian deaths by increasing safety awareness.
Recently, the road safety council, in collaboration with the police, conducted a handover of high-visibility vests to Mayor Ursula Baum and Michael Wilms, head of the school and sports department. Mayor Baum expressed her support for the use of these vests, encouraging parents to ensure their children wear them while on the road.
The high-visibility vests are considered a simple yet effective protection for children, especially in gloomy weather when they are often seen in dark clothing. Klaus Schirm, a member of the local road safety council, emphasized the urgent need for reflective garments, stating that the lack of attention from some drivers poses a significant risk to children.
Financial support for this initiative comes from both the road safety council and a local savings bank. Partnerships with community-based organisations, such as local banks, often contribute by providing financial backing, resources for educational materials, and venues for outreach activities. Such partnerships facilitate funding and broaden the campaign's reach into local communities, including schools, enabling the road safety council to implement programs such as grants for community road safety education or sponsor specific child-focused interventions.
More information about the road safety council's activities can be found on their website (vrkn.de). The council continues to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of schoolchildren on the roads, with the ultimate goal of creating a safer environment for all road users.
In the spirit of fostering a safer environment for all, the road safety council has partnered with the local savings bank for funding, expanding into realms like education-and-self-development by sponsoring child-focused interventions related to health-and-wellness, such as workshops on road safety. To extend this mission beyond transportation safety, the council also encourages collaborations with science institutions for research on innovative pedestrian and cyclist safety technologies.
