"Marseille school thrives as a beacon of success amidst the shortcomings of the state"

In the heart of Marseille's Belle-de-Mai wasteland and a smaller branch in Bobigny, Seine-Saint-Denis, lies a unique educational initiative called Sup de Sub. Established in 2019 as part of the Ministry of Labor's inclusion program, this school is dedicated to helping vulnerable and marginalized young people integrate into society.

Each year, around 80 students aged 16 to 26 are selected to participate in a twelve-month training program. The focus of this training is on project creation, with the aim of developing innovative and creative solutions to address social issues within their communities and society as a whole.

The projects created by the students are self-initiated and self-directed, allowing them to demonstrate the skills and knowledge they have acquired during their training. These projects are often presented and evaluated at the end of the training period.

Libération recently spent three days at Sup de Sub to gain a better understanding of this unique place. During their visit, they observed girls tapping away on their computers, boys raping in a recording studio, and others smoking cigarettes in the small courtyard at the entrance.

The school's director, Jean-Michel Bruyère, is a driving force behind Sup de Sub. In addition to his work at the school, Bruyère has also found time to rescue a dog named John.

While detailed, updated information about Sup de Sub's founding, exact programs, or recent projects can be found on the school's official website or by contacting their administration directly, it is clear that Sup de Sub is making a significant impact in the lives of young people facing social exclusion. By providing specialized training and support, the school is empowering these young people to integrate into society and create positive change in their communities.

At Sup de Sub, a unique educational initiative in Marseille and Bobigny, vulnerable young individuals undertake a year-long training program aimed at personal growth, education-and-self-development, and learning, focusing on creating innovative solutions for social issues as part of their self-directed projects. Striving to integrate into society, they strive for personal-growth and learning through this specialized training and ongoing support.
