Michael Moody assumes the position of MIT Institute Auditor

Michael J. Moody has taken up the position of Institute Auditor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as of July 1, following the departure of Deborah Fisher. Moody brings a wealth of experience in audit, compliance, and financial sectors, having spent over 25 years in these fields.

Moody's new role involves delivering audit services through a risk-based program, which assesses the safeguarding of assets, the adequacy of internal controls, compliance with laws and regulations, and adherence to ethical practices. This approach aims to ensure financial integrity, compliance, risk management, and operational efficiency at MIT.

Prior to his role at MIT, Moody served as the director of compliance in the Office for Audit and Advisory Services at Northwestern University since 2004. Before that, he was the director of audits at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Moody's career in education began after a stint as a senior associate at the public accounting firm Coopers and Lybrand.

Moody's impressive resume also includes serving as the director of internal audit in the Office of the Comptroller for the state of Illinois. He holds a bachelor of science in finance from Northeastern Illinois University.

In his announcement, Executive Vice President and Treasurer Israel Ruiz applauded Fisher for her exceptional leadership of the Audit Division. Fisher, who served as Institute Auditor since 2000, was also praised for her reliable support of the Risk and Audit Committee of the MIT Corporation.

Moody's appointment comes with high expectations, as he steps into big shoes left by Fisher. His extensive experience and certifications, including certified internal auditor, certified information systems auditor, certified inspector general, and risk management assurance, make him well-equipped to meet these challenges.

Moody's expertise in public accounting, combined with his extensive experience in education, positions him well for the role of Institute Auditor at MIT, where he aims to promote science through effective public education, ensuring ethical practices and compliance with all laws and regulations. His background in risk management assurance and self-development through various certifications, such as certified internal auditor and risk management assurance, will be crucial in maintaining the financial integrity and operational efficiency of MIT's education-and-self-development programs.
