Nine additional students have graduated from the 'Iron and Fire' program in Grosseto.
In the picturesque city of Grosseto, Italy, the 'Iron and Fire: The Art of the Farrier' professional training course hero concluded on September 5th, 2024. This course, which is part of the official registry of professional roles in the Tuscany Region, aimed to provide an opportunity for training to become a farrier.
Knight Martucci, one of the instructors for the program, stated that the course was designed to equip trainees with the necessary skills to care for equine and bovine hooves, trim them, shoe them, and even forge shoes. The course ran from October 2024 to June 2025 and awarded a level III qualification in the European Qualifications Framework, referencing the role of a farrier.
The training process was managed by Pitagora Training Centre srl, and the commission for the course included professionals from the relevant professional area. Stefano Manocchio, a veterinarian, and Renzo Dragoni, owner of the Banditella Farm, were part of this commission. Loriano Bargagli, a skilled farrier, served as the course tutor.
The course focused on studying podiatry and understanding horse feet. It provided hands-on experience, allowing trainees to hone their skills under the guidance of experienced instructors. The course concluded with a final exam, which certified nine trainees from across Italy.
One of the significant added values of the course was that it was free of charge, making it accessible to a wider audience. Knight Prisco Martucci held the position of Lead Instructor during the program and played a crucial role in its successful completion.
The role of the 'Attendant for Trimming, Shoeing of Equine and Bovine Hooves, and Forging Shoes' is commonly known as a farrier. This course has provided a platform for aspiring farriers to learn from experts and embark on a rewarding career in this field. The Tuscany Region continues to support and encourage such initiatives, fostering growth and development in various professional sectors.
