Penn Nursing & Engineering Students Win Datathon with Innovative Patient Acuity Metric
Last month, nearly seventy students from Penn Nursing and Penn Engineering took part in the Penn Community Collaboratory for Co-Creation Datathon. Among them, Team 6 CARE emerged victorious, winning the top award for their innovative solution.
The victorious team, Team 6 CARE, developed a metric to better evaluate patient acuity and resource needs. Their solution, A Critical-care Acuity & Resource Evaluation Metric, utilised the extensive MIMIC-IV database, a vast critical care dataset. This novel approach has the potential to significantly improve patient assessment and resource allocation in critical care settings.
The Datathon, sponsored by the Penn Community Collaboratory for Co-Creation, brought together students from diverse backgrounds, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. Participants worked tirelessly, harnessing their skills in data analysis and healthcare understanding to create meaningful solutions.
Team 6 CARE's winning solution, leveraging the MIMIC-IV database, promises to enhance patient acuity evaluation and resource management. The Penn Community Collaboratory for Co-Creation Datathon continues to inspire innovative problem-solving at the intersection of data and healthcare.
