Premiere of Six Musical Compositions by Student Artists at RSO
On Monday, November 5, 2018, the Russian String Orchestra will take the stage at Schoenberg Hall for a special performance. The event will feature six new compositions by composition students from the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music.
One of the pieces to be performed is "Sinfonia" for String Orchestra, which is entirely derived from a single five-note melodic motive. Another intriguing composition is "Lost in Lut", built upon microtonal harmony combined with a fragment of a short melody from Persian classical music.
Marcus Norris' piece "My Idols Are Dead" will also be performed. The lyrics read: "My idols are dead. My choices were blind. I've never heard God. The voices were Mine." The emotional and poignant "Toccata and Intermezzo" will also be part of the programme. Composed by Mason Swan Lewis, this piece follows an ABA form, with the middle section distinct from the surrounding music.
The performance will start at 7 pm and will be conducted by Misha Rachlevsky. The Russian String Orchestra will premiere these six student compositions in Moscow before the U.S. performance.
In addition to these pieces, Dante Luna's composition "Listen To Me" will also be performed. Dante found that imposing self-limitations allowed him to express his inner emotions freely.
Interestingly, the composition "Toccata and Intermezzo" was not composed by Kenneth Glendon, as previously thought, but by Mason Swan Lewis.
The performance is free for admission, making it an exciting opportunity for music lovers to experience the fresh and innovative works of young composers. For those seeking more information about the composition students and their works, it is recommended to check UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music’s official announcements or concert programs.
According to Rilke, writers should introspect and find the reason for their writing that has roots in the depths of their heart. It seems that these student composers have done just that, creating a unique and moving musical experience that will surely resonate with audiences.
Engaging in both education-and-self-development and entertainment, the upcoming performance by the Russian String Orchestra on November 5, 2018, will offer online-learning opportunities for music enthusiasts. Not only can they enjoy the live performance at Schoenberg Hall, but they can also delve deeper into the works of the composition students from the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music via the school's official announcements or concert programs.
