In a significant step towards digital transformation, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has officially reopened its Digital Industrial Park (DIP) in Kano, Nigeria. The park, initially completed in 2024, was restored following vandalism during nationwide protests in August 2024 and officially recommissioned on July 2, 2025.

The DIP, a federal government initiative, is designed to accelerate digital skills development, support startups, and create employment opportunities for youth, particularly in northern Nigeria. It serves as a hub for research, development, and commercialization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) innovations, providing infrastructure and resources to help Nigerian tech entrepreneurs transform ideas into viable products and services.

The commissioning ceremony was led by Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy. Key figures present included Alhaji Aminu Gwarzo, Deputy Governor of Kano State, representing Governor Abba Yusuf, and Ayodele Olawande, Honourable Minister of Youth Development. The event also saw the participation of Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission, representatives of the Emir of Kano, and senior executives from IHS Nigeria, a key partner in the park’s restoration.

Dr. Tijani, who was conferred with the traditional title Sarkin Yakin Dijital Na Kano-Champion of Kano's Digital Advancement, emphasised the importance of safeguarding spaces like the DIP to protect the dreams and ambitions of millions of young Nigerians. He reiterated that the work they are doing through the NCC is aimed at empowering young people through technology and innovation.

The establishment and revitalization of the DIP mark a turning point for Kano and Northern Nigeria's digital economy, demonstrating strong collaboration between the federal government, Kano state government, private sector stakeholders, and development partners. It aims to unleash tech-driven economic activities, innovation hubs, and capacity-building initiatives across the region.

Dr. Tijani expressed gratitude for the honour, stating his continued advocacy for digital transformation. The renovated DIP is seen as a new opportunity and a gateway for young people in Kano to access skills, resources, and opportunities. The park embodies the Nigerian government's strategic blueprint for building a vibrant digital economy beyond traditional tech hubs like Lagos.
