SAP's fresh campus sparks Karnataka's advancement in AI and workforce training: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah

In a significant move towards establishing itself as a premier technology and innovation hub, Karnataka, India's IT capital, is making significant strides in various cutting-edge sectors. This was emphasized at the inauguration of SAP Labs India's Innovation Park in Devanahalli, where Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the state's vision for advancing quantum computing, space technology, AI, and cybersecurity.

Karnataka is actively positioning itself as a leader in quantum technology with initiatives such as India’s first Quantum Research Park at IISc Bengaluru and plans for a 'quantum action plan' aiming to boost startup ecosystems, dedicated manufacturing zones, and academia-industry collaboration to pioneer next-generation quantum advancements.

Simultaneously, the state is expanding its role in space technology innovation with a recently approved Rs 10 crore Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru focusing on satellite manufacturing, Earth observation, AI-powered quantum communications, and in-orbit services. This reflects the vision to grow skilled human resources and collaborate with industry leaders to cement its place in the global space technology arena.

Further consolidating Karnataka's tech ecosystem, Infosys unveiled a new advanced centre in Hubballi focused on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and space technologies, aimed at enhancing regional innovation capabilities and delivering solutions across sectors such as manufacturing and healthcare.

These government-backed technological investments and industry collaborations underscore a comprehensive future vision of Karnataka as a leading innovation hub that integrates infrastructure development, skill enhancement, startup nurturing, and global partnerships to drive sustainable technology leadership by 2030 and beyond.

The SAP Labs India campus in Devanahalli, spread across a 41-acre site, will strengthen Karnataka's position as India's innovation workforce engine. The campus, designed to house 15,000 professionals in the long term, is seen as a symbol of Karnataka's ambition to lead as India's technology and innovation powerhouse. In fact, SAP Labs India's campus in Devanahalli is slated to be one of SAP's largest offices globally.

Karnataka's dominance in the IT sector is evident from its 35 per cent share in IT exports and its status as home to more than 40 per cent of India's electronics and R&D exports. The state boasts more than 500 Global Capability Centers (GCCs), 18,000-plus start-ups, and 40 per cent of the Unicorns.

India's technological strides are also evident in the expansion of electronics manufacturing, which has grown sixfold over the past 11 years, and the electronics exports, which have grown eightfold during the same period. The production of the first made-in-India chip is set to begin soon, further bolstering the nation's technological prowess.

The SAP Labs India Innovation Park inauguration in Devanahalli marks a defining moment in the State's transformation from an IT capital to a hub for AI, quantum computing, and deep tech. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw echoed Siddaramaiah's sentiment, highlighting India's rapid technological strides through public-private collaborations in AI infrastructure and semiconductor design.

With these initiatives, Karnataka is on course to become a significant player in the global technology landscape, further solidifying its position as India's innovation workforce engine.
