Saturday, young researchers will continue their investigation in Solingen
The Founder and Technology Center Solingen (GuT) is hosting the 28th regional competition of Jugend forscht, Germany's best-known young talent competition, from May 30 to June 2 this year. A total of 79 participants are competing across 43 project works, marking the largest participant field since Frank Balkenhol has been the patron's representative.
The state competition will take place at the "Science Center experimenta" in Heilbronn, with the winners having the opportunity to participate in the federal competition at the same venue. The goal of Jugend forscht is to inspire young people for mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology, and to discover and promote talent.
Particularly successful research projects will have the chance to advance to the state competition. The competition focuses on five predominantly natural science disciplines, and all participants will have to present their work before a jury consisting of experts from these fields.
The exhibition of research projects will take place in the Old Machine Hall on the GuT premises. The ceremony, conducted by Mayor Tim Kurzbach and competition leader Sascha Bergfeld, will be held at the end of the day to honor and award prizes to the young researchers.
Other participants are traveling from various cities, including Wuppertal, Leverkusen, Langenfeld, Cologne, Waldbröl, and Wülfrath. Notably, 14 project works are from Solingen students.
Jugend forscht has been Frank Balkenhol's patron's responsibility for ten years, and he has been instrumental in growing the competition. The competition's motto for this year is: "Make a head for yourself."
While specific famous researchers who participated in the 2023 Bundeswettbewerb Jugend forscht are not publicly listed, the competition generally features numerous young MINT talents with diverse projects. About 200 participants qualify as state winners, with 10 projects awarded as national winners each year.
The 28th regional competition of Jugend forscht promises to be an exciting event, showcasing the brightest young minds in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology.
