Texas School Bus Crash Leaves 17 Hospitalized on First Day of School
On August 13, 2025, a tragic incident occurred on Nameless Road near Palomino Ranch Drive in Leander, Texas. A school bus from the Leander Independent School District, carrying 42 children and one adult driver, rolled over during rainy conditions [2][3][4].
The bus, a 2024 model, was traveling at approximately 45 miles per hour when it drifted over the center line before tipping into a ditch [1][3][4]. As a result, 17 people—16 children and the bus driver—were hospitalized, with one person having life-threatening injuries and two others having potentially life-threatening injuries [1][3][5]. Fortunately, all hospitalized individuals were eventually released after treatment [1][3][5].
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) involved. The veteran bus driver has been placed on paid administrative leave during the inquiry [1]. Superintendent Bruce Gearing expressed sympathy for the students and their families, stating that the majority of the students on the bus were elementary school students [2]. Gearing also provided information about the accident during a press conference.
