School Closure Announcement for July 24, 2025: States and Cities Experiencing School Holidays, Find Details Below
Schools in several Indian states and cities have encountered closures in July 2025, primarily due to a mix of religious events, political protests, and adverse weather conditions.
In Uttar Pradesh and the Delhi-NCR region, schools were closed on July 23 as a precaution against heavy traffic and crowd management risks during the Kanwar Yatra, a pilgrimage of Shiva devotees carrying holy Ganga water. Schools in districts such as Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, and Saharanpur were affected, with some closures in place since mid-July as safety measures during the peak Kanwar Yatra period. Schools resumed physical classes on July 24, after the pilgrimage subsided, with some allowing online classes on closure days.
Telangana also experienced school closures on July 23 due to a statewide student bandh (a form of protest) and Kanwar Yatra-related issues. In addition, Tamil Nadu schools closed on July 23 mainly due to the Aadi Thiruvathirai festival, a regional religious observance.
Chhattisgarh also had school closures around July 23, with Hareli Tihar being one of the reasons. This traditional festival sees farmers worshipping their agricultural tools, and the celebrations take place from rural villages to urban areas. Schools remained closed on Hareli Tihar to allow children to fully participate in the festivities.
Furthermore, Kanyakumari District in Tamil Nadu had a school holiday on July 24 for Aadi Amavasai, while schools in Ariyalur District were closed on July 23, 24, and 28 for the birth anniversary of Emperor Rajendra Chola I and the Thiruvathirai festival. In Chengalpattu District, schools will be closed on July 28 for the Aadipooram festival (Andal Jayanthi), with August 9 being a compensatory working day.
Tamil Nadu has also announced district-specific holidays for events like the birth anniversary of Emperor Rajendra Chola I and the Aadi Amavasai and Aadipooram festivals. The official announcement regarding the continuation of these holidays is yet to be made.
Authorities emphasized continued education through online classes where feasible during these disruptions. It is essential to strike a balance between safety, cultural observances, and ensuring that students' education is not unduly disrupted.
In the turmoil of closures across various education institutions, it's crucial to remember the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle that includes self-development and general news updates. For instance, while schools in Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Chhattisgarh were closed for reasons such as religious events, political protests, and adverse weather conditions, one can utilize this time for personal growth and knowledge acquisition through online education-and-self-development resources and staying informed about current general-news events.
