How to Make the Best Use of the Self-Fulfillment Questionnaire

Think of these statements as more tomatoes than kumquats—the self-discovery question component emerges from considering, "How often do I agree with this statement?"

For each of the following statements in our self-fulfillment questionnaire, pick your answer from Yes, No, or Sometimes/Somewhat. For example:

  • YES → You concur with the statement 90% or more of the time.
  • NO → You concur with the statement 10% or less of the time.
  • SOMETIMES/SOMEWHAT → You concur with the statement 40-60% of the time.

As for the 10-40% and 60-90% crowd, feel free to:

  1. Add two extra categories (e.g., "Not Really" and "Usually Yes").
  2. Round up/down to the nearest answer (e.g., if your answer is around 20%, you can round down to chose "No." If your answer is 30%, you can round up to choose "Sometimes").

Oops, forgot to mention, there are no hard and fast rules here—it's all about what you're feeling and experiencing in general, helping you gauge your overall personal fulfillment.

Self-Fulfillment Questionnaire

  1. I murmur to myself something like, "Ugh, I don't wanna work on Mondays. Weekends, where art thou?" majority of the week (half the time).

Yes, No, or Sometimes?

  1. Look deeply into my soul, and I'd do a somersault of regret, with at least one major life choice, like where I dwell or my career path, within the domain of my ruminating thoughts.

Yes, No, or Sometimes?

  1. As the clock strikes six o'clock, my melancholic heart yearns for a more uplifting day, as if I should've done more or made different choices.

Yes, No, or Sometimes?

  1. Work, chores, and telly constitute my whole list of hobbies—my life revolves around work and familial obligations, leaving no energy for leisurely pursuits.

Yes, No, or Sometimes?

  1. I position my self-worth and value square within the construct of my vocation and what I do for others' satisfaction (e.g., being a parent or caretaker).

Yes, No, or Sometimes?

  1. My self-identification stems from others and external factors gaze directed at me, rather than from my own interests or self-defined traits.

Yes, No, or Sometimes?

  1. A nagging, critical voice often talks poison in my head, whispering that I'm not good enough, I should be farther along, or I'm lazy, stupid, or ugly.

Yes, No, or Sometimes?

  1. I'm flummoxed when deciding on the path I wish to set because I'm constantly considering others' desires over my own.

Yes, No, or Sometimes?

  1. My life essentially boogies whenever someone notices my achievements, validating my efforts and desires.

Yes, No, or Sometimes?

Tally 'Em Up!

The above isn’t an exhaustive list to assess your personal fulfillment, but it is a wickedly wonderful way to gauge your general sense of self-fulfillment and where you can smash through life's walls to break into more juicy self-discovery.

After you've agreed, dissented, or felt ambivalent with each of the statements in the self-fulfillment questionnaire, add 'em up:

  • How many Yeses did you rack up?
  • How many Noes did you land?
  • How many Sometimeses did you hit?
  • If you added the extra "Not Really" and "Usually Yes" categories, did you edge more toward either the No camp or the Yes camp (or are they roughly equal)?

Got a Boatload of Nos?

Don't y'all count your chickens before 'em hatched! Fifteen Nos means you're well on your way to attaining personal fulfillment! But remember, true self-fulfillment is a state of being, not a destination. Once you attain it, it's still your duty to keep pushing yourself to live life in a way that tickles your fancy.

Psst… Another tidbit: you are not a static entity—you'll grow and adapt over time, meaning your idea of personal fulfillment will transform along with you!

More Yeses or More Sometimes?

Don't sweat it! If you smashed with 1, 2, or more Yeses or Sometimeses, it simply means you've got some elbow grease to put into your quest for self-pampering. Even a single Yes or Sometimes means you’re not living life to the zestiest, where you truly desire—and if you've got more than one, you might want to take some steps to switch things up, if you genuinely wanna feel fulfilled.

You totally deserve to lead a life delighting in personal fulfillment! You deserve to traipse the Earth on your own terms, reveling in life's extraordinary potential and daunting challenges.
