Sheridan School District Celebrates Historic Tennis Title, Honors Educators
Sheridan School District recently held a board meeting to celebrate achievements and discuss new initiatives. The boys' tennis team, led by new coach Scott Dickey, made a remarkable comeback, winning the state championship – their first title since 1985. Dickey's leadership was praised for guiding the team to victory.
The board recognized the exceptional work of local educators. Michael Thomas, a history teacher at Sheridan High School, was presented with a plaque. Clay Christensen, the welding teacher, received the 2025 Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence, along with a $50,000 grant for his program. Ladonna Leibrich, a librarian, was honored with the Wyoming Library Association Outstanding Librarian Award.
In sports, Matt Brown and Eric Venn won the #1 Doubles state title, while Sam Wilcox and Christian Lamen took home the #3 Doubles title.
The board approved Policy IJL (Library Materials Selection and Access) for first and second reading, with a community feedback session scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 8 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Sheridan Junior High School cafeteria. The board also heard current school improvement plans from the principals of SJHS, SHS, and John C. Schiffer. Lastly, they received an update on facilities, including the completion of a slide at Woodland Park School.
