Students from Butscha meet with Mayor Frank Stein

In an exciting development, the third student exchange between Integrated Comprehensive School Paffrath in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany, and School #5 from Bucha, Ukraine, commenced on September 7, 2025. This encounter is part of a twinning partnership aimed at fostering international connections and friendships.

The highlight of this year's exchange is the inauguration of Bucha Square on the Zanders site, scheduled for September 13, 2025, at 11 am. The Ukrainian students, who anticipate using their stay in Bergisch Gladbach to improve their German language skills, as German is part of the curriculum at School #5, are eagerly looking forward to this event.

Mayor Frank Stein and his counterpart from Bucha, Anatolii Fedoruk, will attend the inauguration. Anatolii Fedoruk, the mayor of Bucha, Ukraine, also participated in the inauguration of Bucha Square in Bergisch Gladbach on the same date last year.

The focus of the student exchange is on getting to know each other and exchanging ideas. The students will participate in a varied program in Bergisch Gladbach and its surroundings, which includes visits to the fire station in Paffrath, project work, climbing in the climbing hall in Dellbrück, and a visit to Cologne.

Further details about the inauguration can be found in press release No. 276. The contacts between Ukrainian youth and German host families from last year's visit have continued and resulted in friendships. The students from Bucha have the opportunity to take a break from the difficult situation in their homeland during this exchange.

This exchange is an example of how twinning partnerships can provide opportunities for students to learn and connect with each other. The students' experiences will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact, strengthening the bonds between the two communities.
