Students Returning from Iran Criticize Bus Conditions; Omar Abdullah Offers Response
New Delhi Banter:
Indian students, fresh from escaping the chaos in Iran, have given a big ol' thanks to the Indian government for pulling off the evacuation, but they ain't too thrilled about the rickety buses the J&K government threw 'em in to ride back home from Delhi.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's peeps have caught wind of the student's complaints, and they're bustin' a move with the J&K State Road Transport Corporation to get 'em some comfy, deluxe buses, pronto.
The students, hailing from Urmia Medical University, touched down in Delhi early this morn, thanks to Operation Sindhu. They'd marched their way through Iran, then Armenia, and Doha, before hitching a ride to Delhi last eve.
Airport officials gave 'em a warm welcome, saying the Government of India stood by their safety.
One of the students, Ali, shared his story with our site. He said it was a bumpy ride, with a missile landing near their bus at one point. They were shook up, but the Indian embassy came to the rescue, with help crossing the land border into Armenia, and making sure they got to Delhi in one piece.
A lady named Shaikh Afsa, from Kashmir, spoke up about the buses. The students found 'em in a shoddy condition, which was a bummer after the stress of the evacuation. She's pleaded with CM Omar Abdullah to sort out alternate transportation arrangements.
Another student said they're keen to see the Israel-Iran conflict wrap up, as their studies are taking a hit. They need to get back ASAP for their practical classes.
Roughly 4,000 Indian nationals are living it up in Iran, and half of 'em are students.
Israel-Iran Squabble
The Israel-Iran showdown started when the Israeli military launched "Operation Rising Lion" last Friday. They said they were acting because they thought Iran was on the brink of developing a nuclear weapon.
More than 250 folks, with over 200 of 'em in Iran, have been killed as a result of cross-border attacks.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said they kicked things off to eliminate two existential threats for Israel - the nuclear threat and the ballistic missile threat.
He declared that the Israeli military now controls the skies over Tehran, makin' a statement by attackin' Iranian nuclear installations, missiles, command centers, and regime symbols.
