Talented Youth from Kazakhstan Make a Mark at Global Olympiads

**Kazakhstan's Students Shine at International STEM and Chemistry Olympiads**

Kazakhstan's education system continues to garner international recognition, as demonstrated by its students' impressive performances at the 2025 International STEM Olympiad and the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO 2025).

At the International STEM Olympiad, which took place in Barcelona from July 9 to 15, Kazakh students won gold, silver, and bronze medals. The success was repeated at the IChO 2025 held in the United Arab Emirates, where four Kazakh schoolchildren clinched a total of four medals, including two gold and two silver.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated the students on their historic achievement, praising their success as a reflection of the strength and international recognition of Kazakhstan's education system. Minister of Education Gani Beisembayev echoed these sentiments, noting the students' achievements as a testament to the quality of education in Kazakhstan.

The IChO 2025, one of the seven most prestigious international subject Olympiads for schoolchildren, saw the participation of over 360 students from 93 countries. The four Kazakh participants delivered outstanding performances, demonstrating their mastery of chemistry.

In previous years, Kazakh students have also shown their mettle in international academic competitions. In the 2024 IChO, for instance, Kazakhstan secured two gold, one silver, and one bronze medal.

To further boost its higher education sector, Kazakhstan currently hosts branches of 23 leading international universities, with seven more set to open in 2025-2026. However, the education system still faces challenges such as regional disparities and infrastructure issues.

Despite these challenges, the employment rate for university graduates in Kazakhstan has improved significantly, with 81% of graduates in employment within a year of finishing their degrees in 2024, up from 71% in 2020. However, the tertiary gross enrollment ratio is below the EU average, limiting the pool of high-skill talent and contributing to a gap in graduate employment rates compared to OECD benchmarks.

In conclusion, Kazakhstan's education system is making strides in international competitions and is expanding its international educational offerings. While it still faces challenges, the recent successes in the IChO 2025 and the International STEM Olympiad are a testament to the potential and promise of Kazakhstan's bright young minds.

Education-and-self-development opportunities in Kazakhstan extend beyond academic competitions, as shown by the host's international universities attracting international students. Learning opportunities in STEM-education continue to flourish, with Kazakh students excelling in events like the 2025 International STEM Olympiad and the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO 2025).
