Test scores in math: groundbreaking advancements, conventional mathematics surpassed

Buckle Up: Exams Are Upon Us!

The main exams commenced on May 23rd and will end on July 4th. The majority of subjects like Russian language, mathematics, and others have been completed. Still, there are a few remaining, such as informatics, foreign languages' oral parts, and reserve days, including two "presidential" makeup days for elective subjects.

ONWARDS, ENGINEERS OF THE FUTURE!

There was indeed a concern regarding mathematics at the exam-related agency, as the country requires engineers, so there's a focus on natural science subjects, like mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and informatics. This year, the results of the EGE in profile mathematics, chosen for admission to technical universities, show some progress.

SOCIETY CORNER

The number of students taking the mathematics profile has increased by 30,000 compared to last year, more than 10%. For the first time since 2018, the threshold of 300,000 has been exceeded. The score average remained the same at 62.05, with over 60% of participants scoring 60 or higher. This means that 18,000 more applicants can now apply for engineering and IT specialties in universities this year compared to last year.

There was also a significant increase in history participants – by 9,000. The average score was 55.85 (+0.45), and those scoring 60-100 were around a third of the total, an increase of 4,500 compared to last year.

Chemistry had 6,000 more participants, with an average score of 58.15 (+1.36). Almost every second participant scored 60 or higher, an increase of 4,500 compared to 2024.

Literature had 5,000 fewer participants, but the average score slightly increased to 61.91. Around half of the participants scored 60-100.

PHOTOGRAPHERS IN THE SPOTLIGHT

This year, some issues were present, but not more than previous years. The head of Rosobrnadzor, Anzor Muzaev, acknowledged approximately 58 appeals on the Rosobrnadzor feedback platform, primarily concerning the comfort of the exam (bringing water, food, medical room operations). Given the vast number of participants (over 712,000 nationwide, taking 3-4 subjects), this was deemed negligible.

This year, representatives of parents' committees were also at the exam centers and submitted around 50 complaints about the Unified State Exam conditions. All issues were promptly addressed, Muzaev assured.

Regarding the leak of answers in sociology - it was stated that there was a massive leak in 2013, but none since then. This year, 55 violations were recorded, but these were not leaks. Students photographed their test papers and posted them on social media. "It seems the children were not prepared, and this was the last straw," suggested the head of Rosobrnadzor. However, each test paper has a unique mark, by which all "photographers" were quickly identified. Their work was nullified, and they will have to retake it after a year.

Mathematics: The Tough Nut to Crack

Many complaints surfaced about the overly difficult profile mathematics: the tasks of the second part were not from the school program. The head of the commission for the development of KIMs in mathematics, Ivan Yashchenko, responded in detail. He assured that all tasks were thoroughly checked against school programs after numerous complaints, and each is guaranteed.

Ivan Yashchenko's advice to next year's graduates: "Solve the tasks from the textbooks, everything is there. And in the FIPR (Federal Institute for Educational Measurement, the developer of KIMs: Ed.), everything is also in open access. Don’t waste time and money on bloggers."

  1. To excel in engineering and IT specialties, it's crucial to focus on subjects like mathematics, informatics, and other natural science subjects, as the number of students participating has significantly increased this year.
  2. Despite the challenges faced during the Unified State Exam, such as complaints about the difficulty of profile mathematics or issues related to comfort, it's important to remember the value of online education and self-development, especially for those interested in education and self-development platforms like online-learning.
