Thai Government Unveils 878 New Digital Employment Opportunities

In a significant stride towards digital inclusion, Thailand's "One District, One IT Man" project, led by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DES), has been recognised with the "WSIS Prizes 2025" in Geneva. This initiative, launched in 2025, aims to enhance digital literacy, improve public service delivery, and create digital jobs at the district level.

The project recruits 878 digital officers, one per district, who serve as local digital liaisons. Their roles include enhancing digital skills among local residents, supporting access to government e-services, monitoring community digital centres, and delivering digital economy training using tools like the Cyber Community Thailand (CCT) app and government e-learning platforms such as "Learn to Earn".

To effectively fulfil these roles, the new IT officers undergo foundational workshops across several key cities, including Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Bangkok, Ubon Ratchathani, and Nakhon Si Thammarat. These workshops prepare them for community digital development and public service support.

The project seeks to build a strong digital foundation, particularly for youth and local communities. It helps reduce the digital divide by bringing digital education and services to every district. By enhancing Media and Information Literacy (MIL), it assists in reducing the spread of fake news and enhances safe internet use among citizens.

This initiative also creates 878 new digital jobs, boosting the digital economy and fostering digital inclusion nationwide. It is a strategic step towards decentralizing digital development and ensuring that Thailand's digital policies and infrastructure benefit every district comprehensively.

Prasert Jantararuangtong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the DES, stated that the project is a crucial step towards building a strong digital foundation for the country's youth. He also emphasised that the project is designed to provide jobs and opportunities.

The DES Ministry is also escalating measures to counter fake news through the Asian Forum Against Cybercrime Network (AFNC). The new hires will act as local digital liaisons, delivering training to locals on digital economy skills.

This recognition at the WSIS Prizes 2025 underscores Thailand's commitment to digital transformation and its efforts to empower its citizens with digital skills and services. With the "One District, One IT Man" project, Thailand is taking a significant step towards a more digitally inclusive future.
